Leah Shales: I think that a big mistake that accountants make is not continuing to educate themselves. It’s really important to take training courses every year so you can stay current, learn about new technology, and also learn about ways to make your accounting processes more efficient.

Not just technology, but businesses in general are constantly evolving so accountants might be faced with new accounts or new transactions that they are not completely familiar with. So by taking training courses every year this provides you with ways to learn how to record the transactions properly for these accounts. (more…)

Jen Lang: My name is Jen Lang and I am a CPA. I have been working at Fine Point Consulting for about seven months, I started in December. I do primarily outsource controller and CFO work. I grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin. Moved to Milwaukee, went to college at Marquette. I got a degree in Accounting, I got my masters in Accounting. I lived in Milwaukee for a little under 10 years and then moved to Madison, where I work here in accounting.

Outside of work, I love just to be outside in nature. I love hiking, biking, running, swimming, skiing. Overall, I’m a pretty active person. I like to do triathalons and half marathons. I’m doing a half marathon this weekend. Just being outside.

My name is Leah Shales, I am a consultant at Fine Point Consulting.

I was born and raised in Chicago so I am a Bears fan. I am the third born of six children. I went to DePaul University in Chicago and graduated with my Bachelors in Commerce with a focus in Accounting.

After college I went into Public Accounting, I was an auditor for financial institutions and not-for-profits for three years and that’s where I got my CPA.  (more…)
